Hine-pu-te-hue

"Within the Vibration of Peace

Hine-pu-te-hue, daughter of Tane, is the personification of the hue (gourd) — a vessel of peace, healing, and life-giving essence. In the great purakau of creation, when the Atua siblings clashed in chaos, it was she who soothed the storm, restoring balance through her quiet strength. As the feminine spirit of the hue, she nourishes not only the body but the soul, embodying the sacred potential of calm and renewal.

The taonga puoro crafted from the hue echo the sounds of nature — wind, water, birdsong — carrying the vibration of harmony through time. When the hue sings, it whispers peace across the sacred winds, binding the past to the present in an eternal breath of stillness — a stillness that holds the power to restore balance.

Life is full of small miracles — not grand or distant, but woven into the ordinary — our gifts of the now, that quietly call us to awaken and remember the wonder of simply being alive.

Hine-pu-te-hue (niu series)’ by B. Waipuka-Callander – a digital artwork honouring the Māori atua of peace and sound, exploring sacred resonance, taonga pūoro, and the quiet power of healing vibration.
